NOVA 94 Feet 13 & Under-Orange

Head Coach:  Drew Smerdzinski

Drew Smerdzinski attended James Madison High School from 2004-2008 and played basketball all 4 years. He played Varsity during his Junior and Senior seasons. He was selected as one of two Team Captains his Senior year. He helped his team finish with a 20-7 overall record as well as a Regional semi-final appearance. At season's end, he was named as the Liberty District Defensive Player of the Year as well as a 2nd-team all District performer. He was the head coach of the rising Varsity Spring league Madison team in the Spring of 2008.

He then went on to study Kinesiology at James Madison University and graduated in the Summer of 2012.

He spent the 2012-2013 season as the head JV assistant basketball coach at James Madison High School, and has spent the last three seasons as a Varsity assistant basketball coach.  Coach Drew coached the Nova 94 12U Boys Orange team to an 8th place medal at AAU D2 Nationals last year and looks to improve on that this season.

Along with coaching, Drew has worked as a counselor for James Madison High School basketball camp every Summer from 2007-2015. He has helped kids aged 8-17 improve their basketball skills, and made sure they focused on teamwork and giving great effort. He served as the commissioner of a gym for kids aged 8-12 for the past four years.  This is Drew's second year with Nova 94 Feet.

He currently teaches at Churchill Road Elementary in McLean, Virginia. Along with teaching, he serves as a private tutor throughout the school year. He hopes to pursue a Master's degree in Education sometime in the near future. His philosophy is to never settle because improvement won't occur without hard work, determination, and a strong desire to fulfill one's potential.
