NOVA 94 Feet 8th Grade Girls Blue Team

Coach Christie Shumadine (aka Coach Shu) grew up in Baltimore County, Maryland where she played Varsity Basketball and Softball for her high school team.  Christie was nominated to the first team All-County and County All-Star team her junior and senior years.  Christie went on to play basketball at George Mason University where she earned her degree in Accounting with a minor in Information Systems.  Christie remained in the Northern Virginia area where she worked for 12 years at one of the Big 4 Accounting firms before leaving to set up her own consulting business.   Coach Shu served on the Great Falls Basketball Board for several years in a variety of roles including Director of Player and Coach Development.   In this role, she built a program offering year-round basketball clinics to over 450 kids ranging in age from 5 – 18.  Programs included specialized shooting clinics, skills and drills and the ever-popular Friday Night Lights.  She has coached at both house and competitive levels of basketball and softball for 9 years in both the boys and girl leagues.  With her husband and four kids, Coach Shu is active not only in basketball but soccer, lacrosse, baseball, football and mixed martial arts.

Coach Shu was coached this age group since 3rd Grade for Nova 94.  Her team finished top 16 at AAU 5th Grade Division 1 Nationals in 2015, and 11th place AAU D1 Nationals in 2016.  Her 8th Grade Winter team is currently playing in the prestigious, invite only, MADE Hoops Rose League.  This will be Coach Shu's 6th season with Nova 94.

Rohit Setty

Coach Rohit Setty grew up in Springfield, VA and has been an active player, coach, and official for youth and collegiate sports for over 15 years. Rohit graduated from PVI High School and went on to earn his undergraduate degree from James Madison University. He completed his MA and PhD in Teaching & Teacher Education at the University of Michigan in 2013. 

Rohit recently returned to Virginia from living abroad and in Michigan for the last 12 years. During this time Rohit served as the 6th and 7th grade girls basketball coach at a local middle school in Japan for several years, the U13 Boys South Island Champs and National Runners-up in New Zealand, Basketball Referee in both countries, and as a Men’s/Women’s NCAA Basketball Division II and III official, Junior College official (Michigan, Maryland, Virginia). Rohit has also been an active member of the VHSL and the Michigan HS Athletic Association as an official and a state-level trainer of officials.

As a long time coach and official, Rohit is committed to youth development, fostering a passion for the game he loves, and honing individual player’s skills and talents to leverage them for dynamic team basketball.  This will be Coach Setty's 3rd year coaching with Nova 94.
